THE MODES & THE GENDERS

The Modes

The core feature of any life cycle remains the same. Something is born...something remains for a time...and something dies. No natural law is more primary or more inviolate.

An atom is created in a particle accelerator and in a millisecond it breaks down. We know of that atom only through conjectural evidence. A child is born and lives for 80 years. An old man is buried. Pyramids are raised and a civilization lives in the Nile Valley for three millenia. Gradually, that civilization decays and dies out.

Atoms, people, entire cultures...the only difference is time. The core feature of the life is the same...birth, existence for a measurable time in a distinct form, then death.

These three archetypal phases of any life cycle constitute THE MODES.

The first Mode is known as the CARDINAL Mode.

This Cardinal Mode refers to the beginning of a life cycle...of birth. The Cardinal Mode is one of Initiation. Something arises out of the void. It is the creative push that urges new life to manifest in a system which may already be stable and closed.

Once existence is manifested, any life cycle moves into the second phase and Mode.

The second Mode is known as the FIXED Mode.

The Fixed Mode is one of stability and continuity. It is in this Mode that any life form is most recognizable...is in its maturity. Fixity, however, also refers to stubbornness or unresponsiveness. Fixity is the antithesis of change, but the quintessence of strength.

The stability of the Fixed Mode will endure for an instant or for an eon of time...but it will never endure for eternity. Life is corrosive. Bodies die. Metals rust. Entire civilizations disapppear. From the moment of birth, the ending of that life cycle is certain.

Reigning over the end of a life cycle is the third Mode known as the MUTABLE Mode.

The essence is one of change, adjustment and often complete dissolution. One virtue is synonymous with the Mutable Mode and that is Adaptability. It can respond to a changing enviornment by changing its own form. And for this ability, what is lost is all definition...all shape...all form. This Mode can die.

After the death of Mutability, the only force which can begin life once again is the Cardinal Mode of Fire.

The Genders

We are familiar with the use of gender to denote either the male or female of a species. While this would be useful information for someone visiting from another planet, this is a definition limited by contemporary society. The truth of Gender denotes an energy with definite characteristics which make it so. And within each human being, both energies reside. They may be in balance or out of balance, but they reside within each of us with no exception.

In reality, the MASCULINE gender has to do with energy which is linear, outrushing, aggressive and assertive. This is the gender/energy which manifests!

The FEMININE gender in reality deals with energy which is non-linear, receptive, circular and magnetic. This is the gender/energy which dreams and feels!

Males and females both have male and female energy.
