Remember that The 9 Muses are alive and well and their reality intersects with ours.  Temper the traditional information with a touch of whimsy and a lot of Magick.  Take your time while reading and looking at the picture.  Open your mind and heart and let The Muse come to you and reveal her Truth.

THE MUSE CALLIOPE

Calliope is the eldest and most distinguished of the Muses.  She is known as "The Fair Voice" and is the Muse of Epic Poetry (originally she was identified with Philosophy).
She is often seen wearing a gold crown and holding a writing tablet, roll of paper or a book.
She is known for taking a fancy to Achilles and she taught him how to cheer his friends by singing at banquets.  Zeus asked her to mediate the quarrel between Aphrodite and Persephone over the possession of Adonis.  She settled this dispute by giving them equal time, which gave Adonis the time he needed to free himself.  She gave birth to Linus by Apollo.  Linus was slain by Hercules and Orpheus.
